Disadvantages & Risks of Leg Lengthening Surgery to Increase Height

Limb lengthening is a complicated procedure for growing height permanently. In this procedure, the bone is cut and a device is set up which widens the gap and a new bone grows there. But this is a very complicated and expensive method. The surgery surely helps in increasing the height but it has many side effects. The sole purpose of this kind of surgery is not increasing height but helping people with uneven legs, dwarfism and different problems in their shins. This is not a recommended way but an option for increasing the height.

There are many factors explaining why limb lengthening is not the perfect remedy for increasing the height of a person. The reasons are:

High Costs

A person who opts for this surgery will certainly pay a huge amount out of his/her savings. Moreover, the medications and other necessities also cost a lot. So a lot of costs are required.

No physical movement for 3 months:

The person undergoing the surgery will be completely bedridden for roundabout 3 months or till the time the bones have become strong enough to bear the pain. So the person becomes totally dependent on friends and family. This may result into an emotional trauma as the person is helpless and dependent on the family.

Resentment by the family:

Since there is no physical movement, one family member or a friend is supposed to be present with the person who is bedridden. The bedridden person becomes more of a liability. Hence they might disagree.

Unbearable pain:

The pain during the treatment will be too much to handle and more like a torture. The pain may further lead to medical problems like serious insomnia and nervousness. Moreover the pain might reside in the mind of the patient, sometimes driving the person insane. The pain is so unbearable that a majority of people who underwent the surgery regret it.

Marginal loss of money:

When a person undergoes the treatment, he/she will be bedridden for 3 months, hence cannot work to make the money. So there is a marginal loss of 3 months’ work.

Risk of catching an infection:

The body might not accept the new changes and hence will lead to an uneven structure, which may result into a major infection.

Another surgery may or may not be required:

If the body does not welcome the changes or the previous surgery wasn’t performed perfectly, another surgery might be required for perfection. This second surgery will again cost the same amount of money and pain. Moreover the second surgery will again require the same amount of time for healing.

So technically this isn’t the best way to increase your height as you lose money, your flexibility will be affected, bear marginal loss in job, this involves risk, you will be helpless for 3 months and will have to bear the tormenting pain.
